A long time ago, in 1912 to be precise, a gentleman by the name of Mr George Harper gifted a beautiful fountain to Ashford’s Victoria Park. The Hubert Fountain was a symbol of his love for the town and a celebration of the arts.
For years after the opening of the fountain, the town would come together on his birthday to remember Mr Harper’s generosity. On the 23rd July 2015, Create organisers are inviting the good people of Ashford to unite in Victoria Park once again to bring back to life the celebrations of Mr Harper’s birthday bash!
Next Thursday, when you’re arranging coffee stops with friends or picking up some snacks in M&S; make the most of the occasion and grab a lunch to take away. Bring the family, colleagues, staff, clients and friends to Victoria Park between 11:00am - 3:00pm for a picnic lunch to remember!
There will be lots to see and do, including birthday cakes races, stilt walkers plus performances and craft making from the Same Sky arts charity.
All attendees to this free event will be given a souvenir to collect on the day. Pop along to the Ashford Museum stand, learn a little about Mr Harper & grab your special souvenir postcard, inspired by the original presentation guide from 1912.
Come along to help mark the giving of this iconic fountain and celebrate the passions that exist for this historical town.
Don’t forget the picnic blankets!
